Goal(s)

Illustration of the theoretical concepts developed in the synthesis and characterization of polymers course given in the first year.

Content(s)

1 Synthesis of polymers
PS Bulk polymerization. Kinetics studied by dilatometry
Synthesis of a polyamide by interfacial polycondensation

2 Characterization of the molecular weight distribution of PS synthesized in TP1, and of packaging PS samples by size exclusion chromatography.

3 Study of the impact of crystallization temperature on the morphology and crystallization kinetics of polymers (PEG here) by polarized light microscopy with temperature control by heating stage.

4 Processing, characterization and identification of plastics.
Processing of PCL samples. Impact of molecular weight and crystallization temperature on the morphology of the polymer, and therefore its mechanical and optical properties. Identification of commodity polymers using simple tests.

Prerequisites
