Goal(s)
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the characterization of physical sensors and their conditioning circuits. This module is mainly based on practical work that allows to understand various aspects of the sensor chain - conditioning circuit - measurement instruments. This module enables students to approach the modeling of sensors from the characterization results. The parameter extraction allows them to address the global simulation of a sensor (behavioral modeling based on lumped parameters circuits) and electronics integrated circuits.
Content(s)
This educational module begins with a brief review of the characteristics of sensors ( linearity, sensitivity, resolution, precision, etc ...) and readout electronic circuits (instrumentation amplifiers, charge amplifiers, etc. .). This section is based on tutorials and the handling of an electrical simulator (LT-SPICE, SIMetrix, etc ..).
The second part of the module is based on practical work in characterization of sensors. They allow students to become familiar with various instruments such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, lock-in amplifiers, etc ...
The topics covered in this module are listed below:
- Characterizing piezoelectric accelerometers,
- Electromechanical characterization of quartz resonators,
- Characterization of strain sensors and their readout circuits,
- Characterization of temperature sensors,
- Study of an LIA and application to an optoelectronic sensor
- Concepts of general physics, electricity and electronics
- Circuit simulations (SPICE)
30 % CC + 70 % final exam
Final exam conditions :
- 1 written exam + 1 practical exam – 2h au total
