Know the techniques of soil and rock improvement : concepts, technologies and fields of applications

Content(s)

The Course is structured as follows :

  • Courses to present general concepts of improvement and reinforcement of soils and rocks:
    o Concept Strengthening
    Soil without Inclusions
    o Concept Strengthening Soil with Inclusions
    o Concept Strengthening Rocks
  • Courses to detail some of these techniques and present practical cases :
    o Nailing
    o Soil Treatment
    o Reinforcement by Metallic strips
    o Durability of reinforced soil structures
    o Improvement with Injection resin
    o Consolidation
    o Reinforcement by Rigid Inclusions
    o vibro - stone columns
    o Gabions and geogrids
    o Geosynthetics
    o Anchorages
  • A directed work on the design of preloading and vertical drains
  • A Project for Strengthening nailed walls (using Talren software). A report will be requested and evaluated at the end of the course.
  • A numerical analysis of a soil mass reinforced by rigid inclusions (using Plaxis software)
  • An evaluation with a questionnaire designed to test the student's knowledge and an assessment to test the skills of the student regarding the design of preloading with vertical drains.
