Goal(s)
The objective of the course is to acquire the necessary basic knowledge to be able to study methods for the analysis of the mechanical behaviour of continuous or discontinuous rock masses at different spatial and temporal scales (rock engineering course). At the end of the course, students should be able to describe the structure of the rock massif and rock material, and determine their mechanical properties from laboratory tests.
Content(s)
1. Structural analysis of rock mass
2. Description and physical properties of rock material
3. Introduction to rheology
4. Mechanical behaviour of rock material and rock joints
4.1. Short term behaviour of rock material
4.2. Long term behaviour of rock material (creep)
4.3. Behaviour of rock joints
Basics of mechanics of continuous media, notions of geology.
