Goal(s)

Projection and construction of linear infrastructure (roads, highways, railways): earthworks, subgrade, pavements.

  • Introduction to geotechnical engineering of linear infrastructure
  • Laboratory tests used in earthworks
  • Soil classification: introduction to the different classifications, USCS and AASHTO classifications, NFP11-300
  • Compaction
  • Reuse of soils in backfill and shaped layers: Guide on Road Earthworks GTR, complements to the GTR for the implementation of backfill in sensitive materials
  • Improvement techniques: lime and hydraulic binder treatment, other techniques
  • Mechanical characteristics, load-bearing capacity: upper part of the earthworks and subgrade, railway platforms
  • Water circulation: permeability, suction and phenomena
