Goal(s)

  • Discover the concept of computer networks, from the physical medium to software applications using these networks.
  • Understand the various issues involved in transferring information between computers and the solutions implemented in the main Internet protocols.
  • Acquire initial notions of network administration: installation, system configuration, observations, performance.

  • Physical media and information coding
  • Information packetization
  • Multiple media access (example of Ethernet protocol)
  • Principles of error detection and correction
  • Addressing and routing (IP protocol)
  • Error recovery by retransmission and flow control algorithms (TCP protocol)
  • Client/server application programming using Sockets

Prerequisites

  • basic knowledge of algorithmics
  • in-depth knowledge of the C programming language
