Goal(s)
To acquire basic knowledge on heat transfer through the 3 mechanisms of conduction, convection and radiation.
Content(s)
Introduction: heat, temperature, exchanges, heat flow, heat sources, temperature measurement.
Conduction: Fourier law, heat conductivity, thermal resistance, heat equation (conductivity), specific heat, thermal diffusivity
Convection: forced convection, natural convection, heat transfer coefficient, Biot and Fourier numbers
Radiation: flux, emittance, reflectivity, reflectivity, absorptivity, transmitivity, black body, Stefan Boltzmann's law, Planck's law, emissivity, grey body, Kirchoff's law
PrerequisitesDifferential equations, derivatives, gradient and Laplace operator
