Goal(s)
To use the history of science to help students develop a reflective and critical approach to the production and status of scientific statements.
Content(s)
Two amphitheatre sessions on 1° the history of movement, including Plato, Aristotle, Galileo, Descartes, Newton, Einstein, Bergson, Jacques Monod and François Jacob; 2° the history of artificial intelligence, including Plato, Descartes, Leibniz, Fischer, Gödel, Church, Turing, von Neumann, Shannon, Minsky and Daniel Andler.
Two tutorial sessions in four groups of 30 students, to reflect with historical depth on two themes that help us to better understand our humanity: 1° History of philosophical reflection on the animal (Aristotle, Porphyry, Plutarch, Boethius, Descartes, Claude Bernard, Bentham, Singer, Regan, Francione, Derrida); 2° History of the opposition between what has a price and what has dignity (the Stoics, Christianity, Kant, Nietzsche) and of inclusion in/exclusion from the market sphere (the great market of procreation, the great market of data, the great market of our lives, the great market of death). Reflection on the expression "the values of the Republic" (history, attempted definition, questions raised by the use of this expression).
