Goal(s)

Acquire solid bases in electrochemistry to analyze complex phenomena

Content(s)

1. Nernst law:
o reference electrode.
o Different redox systems.

2. potential - pH diagrams:
o Obtention of a diagram.
o areas of predominance (corrosion, passivation, immunity).

3. kinetics in electrochemistry :
o Conventions.
o Charge transfer limiting process.
o Butler-Volmer Law
o Tafel Law
o Diffusion limiting process
o Fick law, Levich law, diffusion layer thickness

4. Applications :
o Competing reactions in oxidation and
reduction
o Metal Corrosion
o Galvanic Corrosion
o Consequences for the safety of the installations.

Prerequisites

Chemistry reminders Course
Balance equation; enthalpy, entropy, standard free enthalpy. Equilibrium constant, variation of this constant with temperature.
Mathematics: Derived and Integral; Differential equations
Chemistry: Reactions, notions of the first and second principles
